Training of outsiders in GSI.
Human Resources Division in GSI looks after the manpower management and deployment. This division also looks after institutional strengthening through the training programmes and participation of the scientists in national and international Seminars and Workshops. The Liaison Office, New Delhi maintains direct connection with Department of Mines, DOPT, UPSC and other Government departments. The DPR Unit, New Delhi is involved in DPRs related to engineering geology and maintains close liaison between Nodal Officer of GSI and Ministry of Home Affairs in the field of Landslide Hazard Mitigation.
The International Division deals with and coordinates the activities pertaining to international matters and collaborative programmes. The Division also serves as the IGCP Secretariat for the programmes in which India is participating.
The Technical Consultancy Services Division is concerned with all commercial activities of the organization. The Division also shoulders the responsibility of cost evaluation of reports and periodic revision of the Schedule of Charges. The Construction Division looks after coordination with CPWD and Department of Mines.
The Training Institute headquartered at Hyderabad conducts different types of training for the persons within GSI and outside the Department keeping pace with the latest development and trends in earth sciences and priorities of the department. The training courses are designed in a sequential manner to develop specialized skills. New appointees undergo the orientation course aimed at orienting them with requisite knowledge, skill and aptitude for functioning as competent geoscientists and for shouldering professional responsibilities with confidence. Officers continue to participate in specialized training programmes on a regular basis there after to hone their knowledge and expertise.
Efforts are on to collaborative and exchange programme with other Organisations / Institutions. Project Indigeo, one such collaborative venture (since 1999) of GSI with ITC and MSM, the Netherlands and AEG, India aims at enhancing the digital processing capability of scientists of GSI and other organisations and acquainting officers of the Department with modern management practice. Some courses are open to candidates from both government and non-government organisations on payment basis. Customized courses catering specifically to any organization are also organized.
GSI regularly arranges National and International seminars & workshops aimed at promoting exchange of ideas and dissemination of information. These workshops are attended by geoscientists from the country and abroad. Geoscientists of GSI also participates Seminars / Symposia / Workshops in organised by outside organisations on a regular basis.
