The Airborne Mineral Surveys & Exploration Wing (AMSE) of Geological Survey of India (GSI) designs and conducts aerogeophysical surveys employing magnetic, electromagnetic and radiometric sensors, data processing, preparation of
geophysical anomaly maps followed up by interpretation and ground evaluation with the prime objective of creating a database in respect of concealed geological and structural features for aiding discovery of hidden mineral deposits.
The surveys are conducted by the Twin Otter Airborne Survey System (TOASS) acquired in the year 1986. The TOASS was upgraded in March 2000 through incorporation of magnetic and spectrometric sensors, data processing and ground proximity warning systems. The upgraded TOASS was commissioned for productive surveys during the first week of March 2000. The area covered so far by airborne survey by GSI and other agencies (in collaboration with GSI) is shown below.
The geophysical anomaly maps are available for sale to students, academicians, government and other user agencies.
AMSE headquarter is situated at Bangalore and five zonal offices are located at Hyderabad, Nagpur, Jaipur, Ranchi and Shillong.
