This atlas presents detailed information on minerals, classifying them in respect of their character and nature and grouping them according to their use in an easily comprehensible and readable form. A list of minerals present in individual deposits has also been provided as appendix to make the atlas more informative and usable. Minerals are grouped into nine categories and each commodity is shown in the map by suitable symbol using size and colour. Size of the symbol is proportional to the estimated reserve of the deposit. The atlas comprises 76 mapsheets on a generalized geological base. It provides comprehensive information about the mineral resource potential of the country to different user agencies, government departments, academicians and the public.

This atlas comprises 43 mapsheets, covering the whole of India and parts of the adjoining countries. Various rock associations of different geological age are classified into several tectonic units. Structural elements, particularly faults are classified in detail due to their direct bearing on seismicity. Several significant parameters eg. Gravity anomaly, crustal depth, sediment thickness etc have also been incorporated in the map. Earthquake events from historic (up to 1900), pre-instrumentation (from 1901-1963) and instrumentation (1964 onward) period with focal plane solutions for the relevant ones, are plotted with suitable symbols.
