Photogeology And Remote Sensing

Aerial photo interpretation is used by GSI as an aid to geological mapping structural elucidation, mineral investigation, Quaternary geology & geomorphological mapping, hazard studies and geo-environmental appreciation since four decades. PGRS laboratories are now situated in nine centres, one each at the regional headquarters and one in the Wings headquarters and offers remote sensing application service to various internal operational activities and outside agencies. GSI carried out promotional and development projects in collaboration with ISRO, ISI, NRSA, CMPDI and Roorkee University. It has produced lineament and geomorphological map of India on 1:20,000 scale. The innate advantage of digital image analysis and the potential of new remotely sensed data have been successfully utilized in carrying out various projects.
