GSI was set up in I851 with the sole aim to locate coal for the railways. Over the years it has expanded its role to undertake elucidation of the geological set up of the country, assessment and regional level exploration for mineral resources, geo-engineering - geotechnical projects, geo-environment and natural hazard mitigation studies, glaciology, seismotectonics, etc. The results of these investigations and surveys are documented in the form of in-house scientific and technical reports, which are known as Unpublished Reports - so called because these reports are not widely circulated and not necessarily priced...
