Basic geological mapping at GSI is done at scale 1:50,000. These baseline data are compiled at smaller scales and various derivative products maps are generated. One such very important compilation* is the Geology of India at 1: 2 million. This has been published as a paper map (Geological Map of India 1: 2,000,000) in 1998 under the direction of the Director General. This geological information in this Map Service is based on the said compilation. Through this Map Service the user can gain knowledge about the generalized geology of the country.
On this map metallogenic information from Metallogenic Map of India (1: 2,000,000) published in 2003 has been incorporated.
