  1. The Library normally remains open on all weekdays from 09-30 a.m. to 06-00 p.m. except Saturdays, Sundays and other Government holidays.
  2. Apart from departmental present and former officers, library and information services are extended to scientists of sister organizations, Research scholar, faculty members of universities and learned institutions, students and entrepreneurs. Besides, temporary membership and day-to-day consultation with approval of the competent authority of this department is also available.
  3. All library users should sign visitors’ book and deposit their belongings at the check counter, against token issued for the purpose.
  4. All departmental and outside Library users should obtain Library Photo-Identity membership cards bearing unique e-identification number. This non-transferable card must be produced on demand.
  5. Each user should submit requisition slip for publication to be consulted.
  6. Requisition for publications preferably be made before 05-00 p.m. to facilitate the staff concerned to maintain normal efficiency. All requisition received beyond specified time will, however be given priority on the following morning.
  7. After consultation publications should be returned to the issue counter and the photo identity card to be collected.
  8. Library including reading room is strictly no-mobile, no-smoking and no-plastic zone. Silence and discipline should be maintained for the sanctity of the reading room environment.
  9. Publications may be borrowed by any recognized institution on in inter library loan basis for a short period only.
  10. In all cases, borrower will be responsible for the loss or damage of publications. In such cases, question of replacement or cost deposit on present valuation will be left to the discretion of the competent authority.
  11. Lending facility for rare and standard text books, archival materials, and old and damaged unbound periodicals, current and loose issue of periodicals, reference materials, unpublished reports etc. are not entertained.
  12. Departmental officers can retain six publications for a maximum period of thirty days only. Faculty members, research scholars and non-GSI scientists will be allowed two publications maximum for fifteen days only. For Post graduate students one publication will be issued for the maximum period of fifteen days. After the expiry of loan period the publications may however be re-issued subject to there being no other demand for the particular volumes. Borrower should collect cancelled loan issue slip to avoid future complication. Publications borrowed by individuals must not be transferred to others. The competent authority will take necessary action to the borrowers retaining overdue publications even after receiving reminders.
  13. Publications to be taken away to field or outstation require necessary permission from the competent authority. The loan period in such cases must not exceed a maximum of two months.
  14. Photocopy charges of required library material, should be borne by the users other than the departmental officers.
  15. Publications borrowed may be recalled at any time.
  16. Publications required for daily reference in the divisions, section or laboratories may be taken on sectional loan. Officer-in-charge who signs such loan slip will be held responsible for the safe custody of such publications. In case of transfer or superannuation, the Officer-in-charge, should get clearance and transfer the charge of such publications to the successor, which should be intimated to the library and recorded in the sectional loan register.
  17. Publication which are not available in the library can be brought from other libraries in inter library loan source. In that case borrower should return the loaned publication within fifteen days from the date of issue and will be responsible for the loss and damage of the same.
  18. Old and archival publications are not to be photocopied.
  19. Consultation of unpublished literature including unpublished reports and restricted published literature requires necessary approval from the competent authority.
